Hello!
My name is Dr. Noel McGuire
I have recently received my Ph.D. in Media and Communication Technology from Chapman University. I am currently leveraging my expertise in both qualitative and quantitative research to fulfill my role as a research analyst at Smarty Pants, studying the lives of parents and teens.
Over the years, I have developed a rigorous research agenda to conduct interdisciplinary, mixed-method research looking around one goal: to understand how families and young people leverage stories to make sense of themselves and the world around them.
More specifically, I examine how:
Mainstream media narratives shape individual, family, and communal well-being.
Children and adolescents use media to make sense of identity and create assumptions about power and place.
Empirical scholarship can be used to inform authentic and conscious content creation, production, and hiring practices in the entertainment industry.
