Hello!

My name is Dr. Noel McGuire

I have recently received my Ph.D. in Media and Communication Technology from Chapman University. I am currently leveraging my expertise in both qualitative and quantitative research to fulfill my role as a research analyst at Smarty Pants, studying the lives of parents and teens.

Over the years, I have developed a rigorous research agenda to conduct interdisciplinary, mixed-method research looking around one goal: to understand how families and young people leverage stories to make sense of themselves and the world around them.

More specifically, I examine how:

  • Mainstream media narratives shape individual, family, and communal well-being.

  • Children and adolescents use media to make sense of identity and create assumptions about power and place.

  • Empirical scholarship can be used to inform authentic and conscious content creation, production, and hiring practices in the entertainment industry.
